GTR Event Technology

GTR Event Technology runs the software behind trade shows and conferences: online registration, on-site badge printing and check-in, lead retrieval for exhibitors, and session attendance tracking. In January 2022 GTR handed Appluex three of its mobile apps, none of them finished, and a platform launch date. We finished all three in Flutter for iOS and Android and built the administrative web app behind them.

The challenge

Inheriting someone else's half-built code is the hardest way to start. There is no author to ask, the shortcuts are undocumented, and the deadline was already set: GTR was assembling registration, badges, lead retrieval and session tracking into one platform and the apps had to be part of it. On top of that, these apps live on a trade show floor, which is the worst network environment in commercial software. Thousands of radios in one hall, shared Wi-Fi, concrete and steel. A lead scanner that quietly drops a scan has destroyed the exhibitor's entire reason for buying the booth, and nobody finds out until the show is over.

Our solution

We rebuilt toward one Flutter codebase per app so iOS and Android shipped together instead of drifting apart, and we ran the engagement in the open: daily check-ins and weekly milestone reviews, so GTR always knew which of the three apps was where. The first, lead retrieval, was live on the App Store on 8 January 2022, in the same month the engagement started. When testing surfaced a defect where data collected without a connection could be lost, we shipped an offline cache within 72 hours: the app captures to local storage first and syncs when the network returns, so the floor no longer has to cooperate for a scan to count.

Inside the concept

A closer look

The timeline is the case study. The engagement began in January 2022 and the lead retrieval app was on the App Store on 8 January. GTR launched its all-in-one platform on 12 July 2022, with the apps in it. The public review of our work was written on 19 July, one week after that launch. On 31 August 2022 the company was acquired, and the attendance tracking app was released on 2 September, two days after the acquisition closed. Half-finished code in January, a shipped platform and a completed sale by the end of summer.

The 72-hour offline fix is the engagement in miniature, and it is the detail worth judging us on. It was not a feature request, it was a defect: data collected on a device without a connection could be lost. On a trade show floor that is not a bug, it is a refund. The answer was an offline cache, written, tested and released in three days. That is what taking over unfinished work actually looks like. You will not always know why the previous author did something, but you can be quick, specific and honest about what is broken, and you can fix the thing that would have cost the client customers.

Only two of the three apps are publicly listed, and that is worth explaining before you go looking for the third. GTR's own product page from May 2022, in the middle of our engagement, describes its mobile event app as white-labelled, a custom app matching each organizer's own look and feel, carrying a personalized agenda and session schedule. A white-labelled event app is published per event under the organizer's account, not the vendor's, which is exactly why the agenda app never appears in a search of GTR's published apps.

Four years and two corporate rebrands later, both listed apps are still published and still maintained. The lead app shipped version 2.0.16 on 19 August 2026 and the attendance app version 1.23 on 14 May 2026. Their bundle identifiers still read gtrnow, and the attendance app's Google Play description was never fully rebranded: it still opens with the instruction to download the GTR Track app, under a title carrying the new brand. We make no claim on the code shipping today, because four years and two owners have passed and we would have no way to prove it. What we will claim is what the record shows: the products we finished are still in service, under the identifiers they were built with.

What we built

Key features

Lead retrieval app for exhibitors, iOS and Android from one Flutter codebase

Session attendance tracking app for scanning badges at the door

Per-event agenda and schedule app, white-labelled to each event organizer

Offline cache so scanning keeps working when the venue network does not

Administrative web app for the staff running the event

Daily check-ins and weekly milestone reviews across all three apps

FAQ

Common questions

What did Appluex build for GTR Event Technology?

Appluex took over three incomplete mobile apps, a lead retrieval app for exhibitors, a session attendance tracking app, and a per-event agenda app, and finished all three in Flutter for iOS and Android. We also built an administrative web app for the staff running events.

Can Appluex take over an unfinished app someone else started?

Yes. That is exactly what this engagement was. The GTR work began in January 2022 with three half-built apps and a platform launch date already set, and the first app was released on the App Store on 8 January 2022. We run daily check-ins and weekly milestone reviews so you always know which piece is where.

What happens when an event app loses connectivity?

It should keep working. During this engagement a defect where data collected offline could be lost was fixed within 72 hours by adding an offline cache: the app writes to local storage first and syncs when the connection returns. Trade show floors have unreliable networks, so a scanner that depends on the venue Wi-Fi is not finished.

Why is only some of the work publicly listed?

The agenda app was white-labelled per event, published under each event organizer's own branding rather than the client's, so it does not appear under a single developer account. The lead retrieval and attendance tracking apps are both still published, with releases in 2026.
